The 180,000 square-foot world class Emory Musculoskeletal Institute in Brookhaven, Georgia opened in 2021 with a new six-story facility dedicated to improving the patient experience and research.  Designed by HKS, the facility’s design was inspired by the institute’s goal to restore fluidity of motion and elements of the building symbolize the human body.

  • Targeted for LEED Silver, the aim to reduce the carbon footprint of the building played a major role in the design.  The facility employs a stormwater reclamation system, lighting/occupancy sensors, sustainably sourced materials and smart building technologies to reduce energy and water consumption.

  • The building’s southern façade includes SageGlass smart windows to control temperature and decrease energy consumption, while reducing the need for shades to maintain views and daylight.

  • In 2022, the Institute was a finalist for the prestigious World Architecture Festival (Completed Buildings: Health).
