Durability & Reliability
Stands up to the Elements
SageGlass is as tough as it is beautiful. It has proven its mettle in testing across a range of harsh environmental conditions for more than 15 years.
SageGlass’ all-ceramic coatings are extremely durable against the highly stressful elements (blazing sunlight, UV exposure, and extreme hot and freezing temperatures) that windows, skylights and curtain walls experience over a lifetime.
Proven Results and Continuous Testing
But don’t just take our word for it. SageGlass has outperformed in durability tests by independent third-party organizations including the US Department of Energy (DOE) and major industry glass companies. SageGlass performed reliably in key industry tests such as:
- ASTM E2141
- ASTM E2190
- EN1279, parts 2 and 3
- 100,000 tint/clear cycles under thermal and solar exposure
- 24 months in the DSET Laboratory Arizona desert test
We also continuously subject SageGlass to extensive in-house testing, which includes natural weathering, thermal shock and high temperature cycling.
Built to Last
We invested in the world’s best manufacturing technologies to produce dynamic glass of uncompromising quality and reliability. Our patented process starts by coating float glass with nano-layers of metal oxides using a sputter deposition system. It’s a process similar to that used to make millions of square feet of low-e glass each year. We then fabricate SageGlass into an insulating glass unit (IGU) with another piece of glass using a stainless steel spacer.
Our process is unique: we hold more than 250 US and global patents in electrochromic and glass manufacturing technologies.
SageGlass is manufactured in our 324,000-sq.-ft. (98,760-sq-meter) state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Minnesota. It features the world’s largest thin-film coating system for glass – a record-breaking coating line nearly 500 feet long. Thanks to these market-leading manufacturing facilities and processes, we are the world’s leading manufacturer of dynamic glass in high volumes and large commercial architectural sizes at an affordable cost.
We manufacture SageGlass with the highest quality sealing and component materials, and best practice construction methods. The dual-seal PIB/silicone system with stainless steel spacer and in-line key insulating glass unit (IGU) construction gives SageGlass its longevity. It is a world-class sealing system used by top IGU fabricators. Our stringent manufacturing process has also achieved certification by the Insulating Glass Manufacturers’ Alliance (IGMA), the Insulating Glass Certification Council (IGCC), and is CE Mark compliant in Europe.
