SageGlass Completes Dynamic Glass Installation at North Central College’s New State-of-the-Art Science Center

SageGlass dynamic glass controls sunlight to create a comfortable educational environment that encourages collaboration and interdisciplinary learning and discovery

Aug. 23, 2017

SageGlass®, manufacturer of the world’s smartest electrochromic glass, announced the completed dynamic glass installation on the west façade of the new Science Center at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. SageGlass dynamically controls sunlight to provide students and faculty with a comfortable educational environment that fosters interdisciplinary learning and discovery.

SageGlass was installed on the exterior of all three floors of the façade. By controlling sunlight to optimize daylight, outdoor views and comfort while preventing glare, fading and overheating, SageGlass creates a more comfortable and productive learning environment.

North Central College leadership selected SageGlass for its state-of-the-art technology and ability to reduce reliance on overhead electrical lighting and HVAC systems, which will result in long-term energy savings.

“As part of our Brilliant Future Campaign, the addition of the new Science Center will allow North Central College to maintain its 156-year tradition of excellence while providing our students with an innovative facility conducive to collaboration and student success,” said Troy Hammond, president of North Central College. “Due to SageGlass’ ability to prevent heat gain and glare, this facility will serve as a comfortable, modern space that unites our Science Division and promotes interdisciplinary exploration.”

The 125,000-square-foot center features 34 laboratories; 15 classrooms; an auditorium; 19 student gathering spaces; 53 faculty and staff offices; and a greenhouse. The facility will also include a dedicated space for exercise science and pre-health programs as well as a grab-and-go café and a large flexible meeting space for conferences and other special events.

“We have consistently found a connection between comfortable day lit environments and enhanced student performance in educational facilities,” said Alan McLenaghan, CEO of SageGlass. “By installing our dynamic glass at North Central College, we are pleased to help create a learning environment where students can thrive, collaborate and perform at their best.”

North Central College completed this project in partnership with architect Holabird & Root and glazing contractor Glass Solutions.
