In advance of The Fabricator Installer Trade (FIT) Show 2016, SageGlass®, the US-based manufacturer of the world’s smartest electrochromic glass, will replace an entire glass curtain wall at The International Centre, Telford with its dynamic glass to introduce the product to the UK market and provide attendees with the opportunity to experience the benefits first-hand. The FIT Show is the business-to-business event for the UK window, door, glass and conservatory industries taking place 12-14 April 2016.
SageGlass, a product of Saint-Gobain, dynamically controls sunlight to optimize daylight, maintain outdoor views, and enhance comfort by preventing glare and solar heat. At The International Centre, Telford SageGlass will install its LightZone™ product, which enables the ability to create up to three variable tint zones within a single pane of SageGlass. With custom zoning strategies to provide the ideal balance of sunlight, LightZone dramatically reduces energy demand and the need for over-sized HVAC. Further, SageGlass provides architects with additional design freedom for building envelopes because it is available in a variety of geometric shapes and zoning patterns.
“By installing SageGlass at the venue, FIT Show attendees will be able to experience how our product transforms the occupant experience in buildings by creating a more comfortable, daylit environment,” said Alan McLenaghan, CEO of SageGlass. “With our Paris-based parent company, Saint-Gobain, the Europe market is a natural fit for expansion. Following the exhibition, the installation will continue to serve as a showcase project for future customers and partners in the UK.”
At the Centre, SageGlass will be automatically controlled by four external light sensors which detect predetermined light levels at which the SageGlass will tint from the clear state of 60 percent light transmission, in four stages down to only 1 percent light transmission. Tinting may be also controlled on-demand via the SageGlass mobile app. All cable and controls are integrated in to the system and are easily installed in the existing curtain walling. The glass for The International Centre, Telford will be processed and installed by the company’s UK distributor, County Durham based Clayton Glass.
The installation is believed to be the largest and most expensive glass installation ever to be carried out for a product at an exhibition and probably of any building related product, anywhere in the world.
More than 170 exhibitors are exhibiting at The FIT Show, the only UK exhibition and showcase for professionals involved with the manufacture, installation and specification of windows, doors, glass and glazing products and services.
