Approximately three years ago, in May of 2013, the town of Moore, Oklahoma, was struck by an enormous tornado, which had a devastating impact on the community; however, looking at the newly built Moore Recreation & Aquatic Center, an outsider would not think this town was recently faced with tragedy.

Construction began on the Moore Community Center two years ago as a sign of the town’s ability to rebuild and regain its strength.

“The people of Moore came together to revitalize this town and make it better than ever,” said Moore Assistant City Manager Todd Jenson. “This building is truly a testament to the strength and courage of each and every member of our community.”

The 53,000-square-foot recreation center, which officially opened in April, now serves as a rallying place for community members and truly demonstrates the resiliency of the local community. The center is even aptly nicknamed the “Station” in honor of the town’s railroad roots. Out of the town’s population of 60,000, 3,500 people utilize the “Station” each week.

In order to provide visitors to the “Station” with the most comfortable indoor experience possible, the project architect chose to install our dynamic glass. SageGlass was installed on the east and west wall of the 15,000-square-foot gymnasium as well as in conference and community rooms throughout the facility in order to create shading and protect occupants from direct sunlight. The architects also chose our electrochromic glass for its easy maintenance. Unlike blinds or shades which collect dust and require constant cleaning, SageGlass presented a maintenance-free option on large expanses of glass that would have been difficult to protect from the sun in any other way.

Local dignitaries and community members attended the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony in April and expressed their pride and enthusiasm for the project:

“This [project] serves as a testament to the world that Moore is still here and growing and will continue to grow and prosper,” said Moore Mayor Glenn Lewis in an interview with News 9.

The Moore Community Center is located at: 301 S Howard Ave, Moore, OK 73160

The Station offers a variety of recreational activities for the community including fitness programs, youth and adult education classes and family fun events.
