The largest national architecture and design conference was held in Philadelphia on May 19 to 21, with more than 20,000 design and architecture experts in attendance.
The American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) 2016 National Convention featured workshops, exhibitions, Pro Series sessions by award-winning business leaders, educational tours as well as keynote speeches by comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Neri Oxman and Pritzker Prize winner Rem Koolhaas.
SageGlass had a great time at this year’s Convention and had a lot going on! Here’s a snapshot of SageGlass’ presence at AIA:
The Cube & Booth (#1909)
Our one-of-a-kind SageGlass Cube was stationed at the Broad Street entrance of the Pennsylvania Convention Center to provide attendees with the opportunity to experience our dynamic glass first-hand. The location in the hall was great – right above registration and on a main corridor so we enjoyed plenty of traffic during the entire convention. We provided free coffee and offered a space for folks to kick-up their feet for a few minutes while charging their personal devices. Visitors to the Cube could also enter to win an Apple iWatch.
Attendees who also stopped by our booth got to see two large 5x10 glass units and learned about our recent national survey, in partnership with Saint-Gobain, about daylighting and architecture in the workplace. Right next to our booth, we sponsored one of the Learning Lounges in affiliation with AIA. We held eight continuing education sessions during the show and most were sold out. We would like to extend a special thank you to Chris Muskopf from Cambridge Seven Architects for presenting a great case study on the Boston Museum of Science project – where SageGlass is featured in a large curtain wall that protects visitors from glare and heat while preserving beautiful views of the Charles River. Architects who stopped by the booth received ¼ AIA credit.
We also announced some recent installation news. SageGlass was installed at a new LEED Platinum Certified mixed-use property in Boulder, Co. The 280,910-square-foot, three-story sustainable building features ground-floor retail as well as commercial office space on the second and third floors.
The Saint-Gobain Parklet Design Competition
Our parent company, Saint-Gobain, hosted the Saint-Gobain Parklet Design Competition at this year’s convention. The pop-up design competition was held on May 19 and May 20 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the south side of Arch Street between 12th and 13th streets. Local architecture and design firms created approximately a dozen parklets for conference attendees and the general public to explore.
SageGlass had a great time at this year’s convention and we cannot wait to see what 2017 has in store!
