CHALLENGE

Established in 1859, the Fondation Butini offers care facilities for seniors in need of support. Its main aim is to create “a normal and natural environment” for seniors. It employs 250 people at four facilities that meet different needs: two daytime and/or night care centers and two nursing homes.

One of these facilities, the Pavillon Butini, is a general daytime care center open to around 15 seniors who live at home and depend on care. It helps them continue to live at home by providing care and support and allows them to break up periods of solitude and share a social space, all while giving their loved ones some respite.

Keen to ensure the well-being of clients and staff, the Fondation planned to renovate the Pavillon with the aim of offering comfortable indoor spaces, shaded from excess heat and glare, without blocking views of the outdoors.

For clients who suffer from age-related problems with their vision, it is important to be able to control the level of contrast while preventing glare during everyday activities such as reading, watching films and performing manual tasks.

SOLUTION

The Fondation Butini opted to install SageGlass glazing in the dining and living rooms, where most of the center’s activities take place. This dynamic glazing tints or clears according to the level of sunlight and on demand, offering patients and staff maximum natural light without the disadvantages that often come with it. It also helps preserve the view of the natural surroundings in all weather conditions, which blinds would not have been able to do.

BENEFITS

With the installation of SageGlass in the Pavillon Butini, the Fondation can help its occupants enjoy maximum natural light and a permanent view of the outdoors — elements that have been shown to improve health and well-being.
