Body
Originally designed by Arken in 1989, Olav Kyrres Gate 22 is located in the historic center of Bergen, Norway. This geometrically shaped building required rehabilitation to enhance its environmental performance and transform it into a modern and welcoming office space. The project aimed to preserve the building’s unique post-modern identity and reuse as many materials from the original structure as possible, reflecting the architectural heritage of the area. Therefore, the renovation faced a number of design constraints.
- The rehabilitation seamlessly maintained OK22’s cultural heritage while complying with strict rules and regulations intended for new building designs.
- Ceilings, system walls, and parquet flooring were reused, emphasizing sustainable practices. Exterior window glass was repurposed for interior glass walls in meeting rooms. The insulation of the building has been enhanced to improve thermal performance.
- To improve light conditions, skylights equipped with SageGlass smart windows were installed to protect the space from glare and heat while allowing natural light to enter.
- The building has achieved a BREEAM Very Good certification, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and environmental performance.
