The Challenge

The Science Center at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois is the cornerstone of the college’s Brilliant Future Campaign. In an effort to break down barriers and encourage the free exchange of ideas across scientific disciplines, college leadership worked with architects at Holabird & Root to create dynamic spaces, conducive to collaboration and discovery. Optimizing daylight, preventing glare and overheating, and reducing reliance on overhead electrical lighting were key considerations in the design process.

As part of our Brilliant Future Campaign, the addition of the new Science Center will allow North Central College to maintain its 156-year tradition of excellence while providing our students with an innovative facility conducive to collaboration and student success. Due to SageGlass’ ability to prevent heat gain and glare, this facility will serve as a comfortable, modern space that unites our Science Division and promotes interdisciplinary exploration.

The Solution

North Central College chose SageGlass for all three floors of the west-facing façade of their new Science Center. SageGlass tints dynamically throughout the day to adapt to the position of the sun and outdoor weather conditions. Tint levels can also be adjusted manually to meet occupants’ needs. By reducing reliance on electrical lighting and HVAC systems, SageGlass will contribute to long-term energy savings for North Central College.
