The Challenge

The Mystic Lake Center is an addition to the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, the addition features a 70,000-square-foot meeting and event space that includes a nine-story, 180-room hotel tower. The addition makes Mystic Lake Casino Hotel the second-largest hotel in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, with 766 rooms.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community worked with WorthGroup Architects to design a space inspired by the beautiful scenery and changing seasons of Minnesota. Mystic Lake Center features a three-story glass atrium that runs along the west side of the building facing the Meadows at Mystic Lake golf course. The potential for uncomfortable heat gain and glare, and fading of interior elements was a big concern.

The Solution

Mystic Lake chose to install dynamic SageGlass on the entire west-facing façade of the building to optimize daylight, outdoor views, and occupant comfort while preventing glare, overheating, and fading of interior elements.

“One of our goals for Mystic Lake Center was to create a space that showcases our stunning natural surroundings by incorporating a modern design and state-of-the-art technologies,” said Angela Heikes, president and CEO of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s Gaming Enterprise. “SageGlass’ high-tech glass allows our guests to enjoy unobstructed views of the outdoors, always with just the right amount of light.”

The Benefits

By tinting on demand and in response to changing outdoor lighting conditions, SageGlass provides visitors to the Mystic Lake Center unobstructed views of the beautiful surroundings. Connection to the outdoors has been shown to reduce stress and fatigue, enhance creativity, and improve the building occupants’ sense of well-being.
